What You Need:

  • A sharpening tool such as a belt sander, bench grinder, whetstone, or file

  • Honing oil or water (if using a stone)

  • A strop for refining the edge

Sharpening Swords

Our swords arrive unsharpened but can be sharpened if desired:

  1. Use a Sharpening Tool – A belt sander or bench grinder is the most efficient way to sharpen swords. If sharpening by hand, use a coarse whetstone or file to shape the edge before refining with a finer grit stone.

  2. Maintain a Consistent Angle – Keep a steady angle (typically around 20-25 degrees) to achieve a sharp, even edge.

  3. Cool the Blade – If using power tools, dip the blade in water periodically to prevent overheating.

  4. Polish the Edge – Finish with a fine sharpening surface or strop for a smoother edge and better edge retention.

Sharpening Axes

  1. Shape the Edge – Use a file, grinder, or belt sander to sharpen, following the original bevel.

  2. Refine the Edge – Smooth out rough areas with a finer sharpening tool such as a whetstone.

  3. Check for Evenness – Ensure both sides are balanced and remove any burrs.

  4. Protect the Blade – Apply oil to prevent rust.

Sharpening Knives & Throwing Axes

  1. Use a Whetstone or Similar Tool – Start with a medium grit and refine as needed.

  2. Use Controlled Strokes – Move the blade against the sharpening surface with steady pressure.

  3. Ensure Even Sharpening – Work both sides of the blade evenly.

  4. Finish with a Strop – A leather strop can refine and polish the edge.

  5. Regular Maintenance – Use a honing rod or fine sharpening surface to keep the edge aligned.

General Maintenance Tips:

  • Keep blades dry and lightly oiled to prevent rust.

  • Store in a dry place to preserve blade quality.

  • Exercise caution—sharpened blades can be extremely sharp!
