Rune Divination GuideUpdated 3 hours ago

What You'll Need

  • Your Elder Futhark rune set (24 runes)

  • A quiet place where you can focus

  • A question or situation you'd like guidance on

Note: Rune divination is a personal spiritual practice. There is no single "correct" interpretation—your intuition plays an important role.

Before You Begin

Take a few moments to clear your mind and focus on one specific question or situation.

Avoid asking multiple questions at once. The more focused your intention, the easier your reading will be.

Method 1: Single Rune Reading

Best for: Quick guidance or yes/no style reflection.

Steps

  1. Focus on your question.

  2. Mix the runes in the pouch.

  3. Draw one rune.

  4. Observe:

    • Is it upright or reversed?

    • What are the rune's traditional meanings?

    • Which meaning best relates to your question?

  5. Reflect on how the rune applies to your situation.

Method 2: Two Rune Reading

Best for: Understanding opposing influences or choices.

Steps

  1. Focus on your question.

  2. Draw two runes.

  3. Interpret each rune individually.

  4. Then consider them together:

    • Do they support one another?

    • Do they conflict?

    • Are both generally positive or negative?

    • Does one modify the meaning of the other?

Method 3: Three Rune Reading

Best for: Exploring a situation in greater depth.

Draw three runes and interpret them together.

Horizontal Layout

Future → Present → Past

This follows the traditional ordering described in the original guide.

Vertical Layout

Past

Present

Future

Interpret each rune individually before considering the story they tell together. Look for common themes, repeated ideas, or contrasting energies.

Tips for Better Readings

  • Ask one clear question.

  • Trust your first impressions.

  • Consider both the individual rune meanings and how the runes interact.

  • Keep a journal to record your readings and interpretations over time.
